Blogger blogs are redirected to country specific domains

on 21 March 2012

Google is now redirecting all blogspot.com blogs to country specific domains. If you are from India or Australia, you must be knowing this. Google first started this redirection in India and Australia but now it seems according to my traffic report that country-specific redirection in Blogger is now live in at least 15 countries.

Here’s a complete list:

India [blogspot.in], Australia [blogspot.com.au], UK [blogspot.co.uk], Japan [blogspot.jp], New Zealand [blogspot.co.nz], Canada [blogspot.ca], Germany [blogspot.de], Italy [blogspot.it], France [blogspot.fr], Sweden [blogspot.se], Spain [blogspot.com.es], Portugal [blogspot.pt], Brazil [blogspot.com.br], Argentina [blogspot.com.ar], Mexico [blogspot.mx]

If you are from any of the countries mentioned above, try clicking the link below. You will be redirected to contry specific domain. For example, if you are in India, you will be redirected to jabroo.blogspot.in.

http://jabroo.blogspot.com

Google's did this so that they can easily censor (or remove) content hosted on Blogger country-wise. For instance, if the Indian government (or court) orders Google India to remove offensive content from a blog hosted at abc.blogspot.com, Google can simply block those pages in India while they’ll continue to be available in other parts of the world.

Hope this decision won't affect the blogs from the SEO perspective. Google must be having a better plan for this.
